Indie 3D? Really??

CREATEASPHERE'S KRISTIN PETROVICH-KENNEDY ON THE FUTURE OF 3D TECHNOLOGY IN FILM

For this month’s Starbird, Nat Mundel sat down Kristin Petrovich-Kennedy, President of Createasphere, an organization dedicated to workshopping the most cutting edge facets of the production industry, whether it’s how to shoot in 3D, how to maximize the full potential of shooting on prosumer cameras like the Canon 5D and 7D, or the best ways to manage your post production workflow for an FX heavy production. They’re gurus, and they want to help everyone, not just the Jimmy Cameron impresarios of Hollywoodland.

In the coming months, Createasphere will be taking their 3D production workshop across the country, so Kristin gave us some key insights into the rapidly growing demand for 3D. Simply put, it’s gonna be everywhere soon, whether you like it or not. Kristin lets us know that Streaming 3D will soon be a very real thing, the upcoming World Cup in South Africa will be the largest scale 3D event of all time, and these are just the beginning.

But there’s still a debate over whether 3D will be a dying fad, or if it’s going to be a gargantuan entertainment paradigm shifter. Is this just another innovation that hasn’t come into its own yet (anyone remember when HD came on the scene…?) Or are we going to be oversaturated with way too many dimensions way too quickly…?
